Borates Handbook of Deposits, Processing, Properties, & Use
Published in Hardcover by Academic Press (15 July, 1998)
Author: Donald E. Garrett
Average review score:

You'll soften up to this one.
After just the first few pages, I was pleasantly surprised. Liked the famous twenty mule team on the cover and inside.

Borate deposits have played significant roles throughout history. Since ancient times, people have used borates to make everything from glass to laundry detergent-- Egyptians used borax, the most famous of the borates, to mummify their dead-- and because these minerals have such a variety of uses, their availability often determined the fate of whole economies. Today, borates are essential in the production of an array of products, including boric acid, enamel, ceramics, Geiger counters, and high-tech superconductors. However, the processes of their formation and mineralogical extraction are not generallly known. The Borate Handbook addresses the need for a comprehensive handbook on this important industrial mineral. Dr. Garrett's unique chemical engineering background and flair for history have allowed him to integrate information about the major borate deposits in the world with a discussion of their socio-political impact throughout the ages. The scope and detail of the book is unequalled in the literature.

The Complete Peterkin Papers
Published in Hardcover by Houghton Mifflin Co (Juv) (January, 1974)
Author: Lucretia P. Hale

The Complete Peterkin Papers
This book is about a family who is always getting into the most ridiculous problems. One example is: Mrs. Peterkin, Elizabeth Eliza and the three boys all want to go for a ride, but the horse won't go! They try whipping it, giving it food and lightening the load, but to no avail. They ask the Lady from Philadelphia(whom they are always asking everything!) what they should do. She looks out and suggest that they untie the horse from the hitching post! This is just one of the many hilareous stories in this book. The Peterkin family is always getting stuck with problems, and the lady from Philelphia saves them again and again. This is a must read for anyone who can read!

Geology and genesis of mineral deposits in Ireland
Published in Unknown Binding by Irish Association for Economic Geology ()
Average review score:

The definitive source on Irish mineral resources.
Aptly titled, the hardbound volume is a comprehensive overview of the geology and genesis of mineral deposits in Ireland. Regional scale palaeogeography and tectonics are introduced as the setting in which the mostly Zn-Pb mineralization was formed during the Lower Carboniferous (~350 Ma). District and deposit scale papers on mineralogy, Pb isotopes, sedimentology, petrography, stratigraphy, geochemistry, and gravity and magnetic geophysical surveys are given. For anyone researching the Irish Zn-Pb deposits, this volume is a must have!!

Geology and Ore Deposits of the Central Andes
Published in Paperback by Pacific Section SEPM (July, 1999)
Author: Abrian J. Skinner
Average review score:

Economic Geology of the Central Andes
This book is an excellent introduction to the subject matter. The Central Andes are hosts to some of the most important copper and gold mines in the world and new discoveries , for example of Maricunga -type porphyry copper and gold deposits, are likely. This book continues the SEG's excellent writing and publication program. It will be an important reference for years. Its only failing is the lack of a good index.

Geology Fluvial Deposits
Published in Hardcover by Springer Verlag (May, 1996)
Average review score:

Excellent book
"The Geology of Fluvial Deposits.." is an outstanding book on this matter. Mr. Miall, as usual, has got to achieve the main and crucial points regarding fluvial environment. This book is the best reference on fluvial sedimentation I have ever read.

Geology of Ore Deposits
Published in Hardcover by W H Freeman & Co. (February, 1986)
Authors: John M. Guilbert and Charles Frederick Park
Average review score:

The Geology of Ore Deposits
This book, by Guilbert and Park, is the "Bible" for any economic geologist on ore deposits. As a graduate student in geology, I am constantly using it as a reference and use it more frequently than any other book I have. We used another textbook for my economic geology course, but all of us referred to "The Geology of Ore Deposits" when some info was needed. It is also on several professers shelves as well. Well organized and easy to find specific info.

Every Landlord's Legal Guide: Leases & Rental Agreements Deposits, Rent Rules, Liability, Discrimination, Property Managers, Privacy, Repairs & Maintenance, Evictions (Series X)
Published in Paperback by Nolo Press (December, 1997)
Authors: Marcia Stewart, Janet Portman, and Ralph E. Warner
Average review score:

No Landlord Should Be Without This Guide!
This book is fantastic for the experienced, as well as the inexperienced landlord. It sets out in plain English some of the common legal pitfalls landlords run into and how to avoid them. The books cites examples - some quite frightening - of how these pitfalls occur and the appropriate action to take. The book clearly outlines the differences in particular laws between the states. It explains all aspects of landlord law from finding goods tenants to dismissing bad tenants. The book makes a great desk reference and it's cheaper than a lawyer!

Landlords best friend
If one is a landlord and one thinks that knows everything. Well, be ready for a surprise. In this book in question, i.e., Every Landlord's Legal Guide (Book & CD-ROM) by Marcia Stewart, et al, leases & rental agreements are discussed and explained along with concept and rules governing deposits, rent rules, liability, discrimination, repairs and maintanance, privacy, property managers and evictions. The book is written in an easy to understand manner and the font is quite easy on the eye (which is a nice bonus if I may say so). Highly Recommended for people in the industry.

I couldn't recommend this book ENOUGH!!!
This book has helped through every step of buying my first investment property. It's like having your own professional standing over your shoulder, reminding you about every detail of every step. The section on insurance alone is completely priceless, pointing out that a landlord needs not just property loss coverage but also personal liability. And not just physical liability, but coverage of potential slander, libel, discrimination, unlawful eviction, invasion of privacy suits... And don't forget loss of rents! It's that kind of detail that maybe someone who's done this before would call 'basic.' But I admit: I am no pro, yet when I called an insurance agent and explained what I wanted coverage for, he said to me, "Um, you've done this before, haven't you?" Thank you, nolo!
